New to Boateng Psychotherapy

Welcome. You don't have to do this alone.

Here is what to expect from your first session, and how to get the most from therapy online.

Your first session

A chance to get acquainted.

Share at your own pace.

We will talk about what brings you to therapy, what you hope to explore, and what you want your goals to be. There is no right way to begin.

Trust builds over time. Some sessions will feel easier than others, and that is part of the work.

The process

How it works.

From your first call to your standing session time, this is what to expect.

  1. Consultation

We talk through what brings you in and whether we are a good fit.

  2. Intake forms

You complete your paperwork in the client portal before we meet.

  3. First session

A 45-minute session to get acquainted and begin to shape your goals.

  4. A standing time

We set a recurring session time, so therapy has a steady place in your week.

  5. A reminder, 24 hours ahead

You receive a reminder with your Zoom link. It is the same link every time.

  6. Payment after session

Your card on file is charged after each session, so there is nothing to handle in the moment.

Client portal

Everything in one place.

Sign in to the secure portal to handle the practical side of therapy.

Intake forms

Before your first session

Complete and sign your paperwork online, on your own time.

Secure messaging

Private and protected

Send questions or updates here instead of by email or text.

Rescheduling

Self-scheduling

Need a different time? Move your session yourself, whenever it suits you.

Superbills and statements

For your records

Keep them for your records. Superbills are provided so you can seek out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your plan.

Preparing

Setting up for virtual sessions.

A few small things make online therapy feel closer to being in the room.

A private space

Quiet and uninterrupted

Choose a room where you can speak freely and will not be overheard.

Headphones

Clear and confidential

They help you hear well and keep the conversation between us.

A steady setup

Connection, light, seat

Reliable internet, good lighting and a stable place to sit.

Fewer distractions

Be fully present

Silence notifications and set the time aside for yourself.

Between sessions

Keep a journal.

Jot down thoughts and emotions as they come up during the week. Bring what you notice into our sessions, and let the insights carry forward.

What therapy is

Not fixing you. Reconnecting you.

The work is about returning to your own wisdom, with support. Questions are always welcome, at any point.

Before we begin

Notice your pattern.

Many couples find it helpful to think about their cycle before the first session: what sets it off, what you tell yourself, and what you do to protect yourself. This one-page map is a place to start. It is for reflection, and we will work through it together in session.

Good to know

The details.

Sessions

45 minutes, by video.

Each session is 45 minutes on Zoom. If the connection fails, I will call you by phone, and we can reschedule if you need to.

Fees and insurance

Private pay, out of network.

I am out of network and work with private-pay clients. I provide a superbill after your sessions, so you can submit it to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

Cancellations

24 hours' notice.

Please cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before your session. Late cancellations and missed sessions are charged the full session fee.

Where you are

Your location matters.

You need to be physically in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut or Florida at the time of your session, because I am licensed in those states.

If you need help now

This is not an emergency service.

If you are in crisis or in danger, call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. Please do not use portal messages for urgent needs.

Ready

Take the first step.

Schedule a consultation to talk through what brings you in and whether we are a good fit.
